Our Guide to The Best Environmental Films & TV Series

Seaspiracy (2021)

We’re kicking off the list with the documentary of the moment, Seaspiracy. Exploring the environmental impact of overfishing, whaling and even the place of slavery within the industry, Seaspiracy sheds light on the dark side of commercial fishing.

Okja (2017) 

Directed by Academy award winning Bong Joon-ho (Parasite), wacky adventure/sci-fi Okja explores themes of capitalism and animal agriculture. With a strong cast, including the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano and Steven Yeun, this one is for the film lovers!

Straws (2017)

Short film Straws explores the excessive consumption of disposable products, particularly that of the plastic straw, an issue close to our hearts here at Jedz. With a 33-minute running time, there really is no excuse not to watch!

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret (2014)

Cowspiracy tackles a manner of environmental issues from global warming to ocean dead zones, exploring animal agriculture’s role in this. If you’re interested in learning more about veganism and the damaging practices of the meat and dairy trade – this documentary is for you!

WALL-E (2008)

Here’s one for the kids…

This 2008 Pixar classic is a must see for little ones and adults alike. Exploring themes of consumerism and waste in a child-friendly way, WALL-E perfectly illustrates the detrimental impact human behaviour is having on our environment. Through it’s cute and lovable characters WALL-E and EVE, this film explores the future possibility of Earth as a wasteland, forcing humanity to inhabit outer space.

Blue Planet II (2017) 

You didn’t think we’d make it through this list without mentioning Sir David Attenborough, did you? If you haven’t seen it already, Blue Planet II captures the incredible sea life inhabiting our oceans through its beautiful cinematography and narration from iconic Attenborough. Fun Fact - Blue Planet II was a big part of the inspiration for starting Jedz!
